How to Bead a Stretchy Watch Band

1.        Cut one strand of stretchy beading cord, enough to encircle your wrist, for each set of attachment loops to the watch face.  Add a couple of inches to give you room for tying off.

2.       Pre-stretch the elastic beading cord.  This will keep the cord from stretching out over time and will also give you extra length to help tie the necessary knots.

3.       Tie one end of the elastic cord to the attachment loop on one side of the watch band in a triple overhand knot.  Leave a 2-3 inch tail at the end of the knot.

4.       Add beads to the open end of the attached stretchy cord to the desired length to go around your wrist.  Make sure to thread the first few beads over the main strand and the tail of the stretchy cord.  This will help hide the knot.  To check the fit, rest the watch face on your wrist and wrap the beaded strand around your wrist.  The beads should meet the attachment loop on the opposite side on the watch face.

5.       Tie the beaded strand to the attachment loop on the opposite side of the watch face in a triple overhand knot.6.       Repeat these steps for each strand that you plan to add to the watch band.  Cover every knot with jeweler’s glue or clear fingernail polish.  Allow to dry before cutting off excess cord and wearing the watch.

Michelle’s Tip:  When possible, for a cleaner look, I will double up the strand and loop through two  of the attachment loops on one side so that I only have to knot on the opposite side of the watch.

How to bead a Tranquility Bracelet

Step 1:Cut a 16 inch piece of Shamballa cord (you could also use waxed cotton cord or leather cord) and tie a knot in one end. Thread on an end bead.

Step 2:Measure around 4 inches from your first knot and tie another knot. Your end bead should now be between both knots. Put a safety pin through this second knot and attach to a bead mat. Position the cord so that the end with knot points away from you and the end without the knot points towards you.

Step 3:Put a dab of nail varnish on the end of your thread to make threading beads easier.  Now cut another piece of Shamballa cord approx. 36 inches in length. It is always better to overestimate the length to make sure you don't run out of cord! Find the centre of this cord and tie around your original cord, as close as you can to the pinned knot.

Step 4:Tie a square knot. Be sure when making the square knot to pull the middle cord through the knot (right over left, left over right, pull cord through the middle prior to tightening)

Step 5:Tie a second square knot, then thread your first Shamballa bead on to the middle cord. Bring the other 2 threads around the outside of the bead and tie another 2 square knots.

Step 6:Repeat step 5 until you have added approx. 7 beads on your cord. Tie 2 square knots after the last bead.

Step 7:Tie the 2 outer threads together, and add a dab of glue to secure. Thread on another end bead and knot the end of the centre cord approx. 4 inches away from the last square knot. When the glue is dry snip off any excess cord.

Step 8:Take your bracelet off the bead mat and safety pin. Position the bracelet so the loose ends of cord overlap each other. Now cut another 36 inch piece of cord and tie around both the ends, so your 2 ends take the place of the 1 centre cord you had before.

Step 9:Tie another 7-9 square knots. Tie the first square knot, flip, tie the second square knot, flip and so on until the 7-9 knots are completed.  Make sure not to pull too tight as your thread needs to slide through the middle to open and close your bracelet.

Step 10:Tie the ends of thread together and add some glue to secure, being careful not to get any glue on the cords that go through the centre or your knot may not slide. Cut off any excess cord when the glue is dry and slide to open and close your Shamballa bracelet.
